This experience equips women with tools to cope during treatment and thrive after the cancer experience.

Jim Bernstein, the Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation's founder and first president, dedicated his life and work to improving healthcare in rural communities across North Carolina. An innovator and a motivator, he served as a role model to others in how to address some of the most difficult rural health care challenges.

Recognized by the UNC Black Alumni Reunion (BAR): "In the nearly 20 years she has been at the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, she has established and mentored prevention education, screening and disease management programs for HIV/AIDS, diabetes, cancer and other health threats. She has led grassroots organizations into partnerships with universities, research institutions, foundations and state-funded agencies to create initiatives that have affected hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians."
